No Obelix I have not yet got my idea off the ground, however I will be testing SysAid in a Virtual Environment over the next couple of months. If you would like I could keep a diary of my exploits?
I see no reason why you shouldn't be able to run SysAid successfully. In any case, I will find out!
Mike

Obelix, BJINS,
SysAid is working well on VM and there are no reported issues regarding that configuration.
We have several SysAid installations running on different virtual machines which preform just like you would install it on a standard machine
Best regards

Haim,
Do you have anything running on XenServer? What virtualisation software are you using for this? Is that how you have been testing V6 on Windows 7?

Mike,
Although we didn't tested SysAid with XenServer, SysAid is compatible with VM and there should not be any particular problems with XenServer.
Best regards.

we originally had Sysaid on a physical web server as well as a physical SQL server. Well, until the rack holding web server got hosed down by a faulting AC unit we did
We then did a quick p2v conversion of the web server and it has been happier than ever on the VM host.

Tim...
Can you elaborate on how an AC unit could hose a server ?

Good to know Lev, we just got the same question in a service request and it's good to know that it's definitely working!
Best regards.

A little late I know, but I'm running the entire setup through MS virtual server. I initially tried a dedicated machine, but was effectively wasting the space. But it runs quite nicely in a virtual environment.

I sure can .... but not very well as I really know little about AC units!
Basically from what I understand the condensate extract pump broke and blocked the line. This then caused "some funky stuff" to happen at the cooler end where the water couldn't escape and somehow got blown in a nice stream (read: torrent) all over the half height rack that was about 4' away.
Fortunately we had a very old desktop style server perched on top of the rack whilst it was decommissioned and this too the main brunt of the water. Unfortunately quite a bit did get past the blanking plate for the optional fans and dripped onto the back of various servers. Seems those nice vent holes on the top of some NAS boxes also allow water in really well. Who'd have thought, huh?
We've since had the condensate track relocated into the next room, a higher rated pump installed that won't block the line if it fails and it's all on a slope away from the servers.
Combine that with the flood we had 2 months ago due to council contractors cutting through a water main right outside our office whilst digging another hole in the road ..... and we're finally getting a raised floor installed. I've only been asking for the past 2 years or so lol
As far as the AC units go, the best set-up would be to have the condensers outside of the room and vent the air in and out as needed.

Good god...
Most grateful for the non-it insights, Tim !
I think that happened on my site too... it just never happened in the server room I remember scrambling for trash bins when it pours down on one of our sales cubicle.
Hangin' there bro...

Sadly that what happens when IT isn't heard by accountants.
There is a good thing though ! Now you got your floor and pump ...
We had a small room for the servers with air conditioner and last summer in Israel was HOOOOT ! We lost optical switch, we ran with fans ... I'll spare the whole story.
Now we got a new room in a bomb shelter ( you heard about the missiles on north Israel? We sew them ) with a new cooling unit, new racks ... .
Have a good time with the new floor

We are very happy running the application on VMWare but our DB is MS SQL and it is on a physical server shared with other SQL DBs, the only problem accours whenever the SQL Server goes down due to the load from the other processes.
I am thinking of either installing a MS SQL Express on the same VMWare as the application or moving towards My SQL on the same VMWare.
Has anybody tried using SysAid with MS SQL Express (DB size is maxed at 4G) or MySQL? How is the performance?
For those running SysAid over a few years any idea how big will the DB get over time? Presently we have been using it for a year now and DB size less than 500M.
