Hello,

First of all, I am a relatively new user and I am trying to implement the Agent organization wide. I've already read the documentation and searched the forums but I cannot find anything that translates to my problem.

The issue is that when I make the policy and login with the user account, it installs but it does not start, does not create the desktop shortcut and does not make the registery values. Basically it just unpacks the MSI to the c:\Program Files\SysAid\ folder.

When I use the SysAid deployment tool it works fine. Creates everything. And runs perfectly.

Thanks in advance

Hello (Hallo) s de Haan.

here you can find the info you need http://www.ilient.com/down/agent.PDF
you will need to create a transform file in order to install the software.

Thanks for the quick response.

I have created the Transform file, and applied it to the MSI and the GPO. Still having the same problem as described above.

Hello s.dehaan

This issue is usually a permissions issue with the access to the MSI file which cause the installation to fail.
Please find the below instructions for GPO, those are the latest instructions.

When you deploy the agent using a group policy, you need to edit the MSI package to include your unique parameters. You can edit the MSI package using Microsoft Orca (available at http://astebner.sts.winisp.net/Tools/Orca.zip).

a) Open SysAidAgent.msi using Orca and click on “Transform” -> “New Transform”.

b) Click on “Property” on the Table pane, and you should find the same parameters described above.

c) You must modify at least the ACCOUNT, SERIAL and SERVERURL parameters, and you can also modify the optional parameters.

d) When you finish, click on “Transform” -> “Generate Transform” and save the file as SysAidAgent.mst.

e) After you generate an MST file with your changes to the msi package, you may add that to Computer Configuration part in group policy. To do that, open group policy object editor, expand Computer Configuration > Software Settings, right click on Software Installation > New > Package...

f) Point to the SysAidAgent.msi file. It is very important that the path would not be local or through a network drive, but through a network share to which everyone has read permissions on.

g) Under deployment method, choose Advanced. If you choose otherwise, you won't be able to apply the MST file you created. Switch to the Modifications tab, click Add and then point to the MST file. Again, it is very important to use a UNC to the file (to the network share), rather than a local/network drive path.

Note: This MST file will be good for future versions as well, so make sure to keep a copy of it.

Regards.

Thanks again for the response,

I've done that already, and the MST file that i created is in the same directory as the MSI file. Note that it does extract the MSI file, because it creates the Sysaid folder in C:\program files\ but when I try to start it there, nothing happens, neither does it create the shortcut or the registry entry's.

Do you still believe that this is a permission problem? Because its the same share that we deploy other software from via GPO and they all work fine.

I could check the permissions tomorrow.

S. de haan,

Try to log as a regular user in your domain and try to access the network share from start > run and see if you can run the MSI file

Haim,

I can connect to the network share alright, but if I run the MSI i get the error message that I have insufficient permissions to install it. Just have to figure out a way to get it installed without logging in as administrator on every workstation.

EDIT: Found that you had to set the option in the GPO to run it with elevated privileges. But this maintains the problemen of it "extracting" it and not creating the registry keys/shortcuts/services

Thanks!
