I'm sure this come naturally to some of you. But since nobody's posting about this thought I cover the bases..
Here goes nothing...
One of the first thing that draws me toward SysAid is the capability to tailor the look of the application without any programming or going under the hood and risk ruining the whole thing. The idea is not new but what new to me is... sysaid treat a whole chuck of information as fields ! Like activities, messages, history and so on... you got to admit that's pretty cool.
ATTENTION :
Am talking about objects... NOT views.
View is a different beast which is more complex and often requires programming skills which I highly recommend you at least consult the support team before messing with it.
What I'm talking about are the stuff you get when you click on something in the view, e.g :
1. Asset
2. SR
3. User details
So on...
Here's a glimpse of the possibilities :
1. Put description on the general tab
I mean don't you get tired having to go to tab description after you click the helpdesk detail ? I know there's mouse over field thing which I despise cause it's messy, incomplete and hogs the performance down. We're talking about description here... not a generally short title ! Move the description to general tab and boom... you just increase your response time. Oh and while we're on it.. what in the name of ELVIS is location doing in description tab ? It should be in the general tab along with all the general (duh) info !
2. Merge solution and activities into description tab
Problems-to dolist-analisys-solution they are like songs... they come together and flow in THAT order. Some of you probably born with a photographic memory... but if I can remember EVERYTHING I wouldn't need SysAid now would I ? So why not have everything in one place ? Description-activities-resolution-solution and in THAT order.
3. Move history to the maintenance tab
Maintenance is practically IT people playing doctor on PCs, what is the first thing a doctor do before he have your stripped and lying on the cold patient bed ? Read your medical HISTORY. So why break them into different tab ?
Think you get the idea...
Now how do I do that ?
1. Select the tab in the object (select object by selecting any item in the respective view) you want to custom.
2. Klik on the blue gear icon available in almost all pages.
3. You'll be presented with two collumns : Left - available field, Right - fields on the page, and two arrow pointing each way (right-left) in the middle.
To get rid of field(s) from the tab
Click on the field(s) in the right column and click on the arrow pointing to the left.
To add field(s) to the tab
Click on the field(s) in the left column and click on the arrow pointing to the right.
To arrange the order of the field in the tab
Click on the field in the right column, click the arrow beside the column to move the field up or down.
To get rid of a page
There's a delete button but I prefer simply checking the invisible just in case.
That should be enough to let you customized and fit it in your working rhythm
or style...

Great tip Obelix.
I think most SysAidsers already know how to customize their pages in SysAid (and by the way, you can customize the lists like SR list or asset list in the same way)
Great post

Like I said... just covering the bases.
Most admins practice "if it's not broken, don't fix it" religiously. Am just saying, it may be true with other software, NOT with SysAid.
I know that can be done. The thing is objects got zero possibility for user to screw up while list/view has higher risk to cause problem regular user can't fix.
Just thought, if there're such thing as a pandora box... I shall not be the one who open it.

Yeah, the lists are a bit more fragile, but you have all the instructions on how to customize them as a part of the user manual which can be found at http://www.ilient.com/down/SysaidUserManual.pdf

Guys thanks so much for these tips. The moving the description box to the General tab was something I've been wanting to do, but just didn't pay attention as to how to do it.

Hello, I'm a new user and was just wanting to confirm something- if I hide/move an object or page from view it doesn't affect reports or delete this information from old tickets does it? I'm looking to simplify our helpdesk client and I'm worried it's going to truncate information from older entries.

David s,
No it doesn't at all. You are not actually moving the database data, but just changing the way you look at it. If you move or hide fields in a SR screen you will still see this data on reports.
