I am just wondering if anyone has setup the remote control over a WAN connection. I know some remote control clients have the user connect to the support site rather than the other way around. This would mean you would only need to open up ports in one firewall. The other option I can think of is via a vpn connection.
Does any one have another way to set up the remote control?
thanks

Dear meofcourse ,
SysAid remote control function uses a call back technique which means that the information showing on the remote control page should be of the computer you trying to connect from.
When clicking the RC button the information showing is posting it self as a request for remote control on the server the client connect the server pick up the post use the information showing on the post to connect to the admin computer.
Based on this what you will need to do open a port on the firewall & define port forwarding that every connection to this port will be forwarded to the admin computer.
Please let me know if I have provided you with the information you need.
Thank you
Sarah

Hi Sarah,
I didn't realize that the client installation called home to the admin computer often enough to check for remote control requests.
Thanks for clearing that up.

We have used the remote control over our WAN, with my colleague RC me from Australia. it was a tad slow, but i have to say i was pleasantly surprised.
Although i made a complete bodge of the initial installation and running of the RC once i had configured everything correctly and become familiar with it it worked really well.

This client works well when bandwidth is above 1 Mbit. If it's slower than you have problems. But this is more related to use of VNC client.

Andrej, if you have a slow line to the client, you can try and play with the settings of the remote control viewer and decrease the quality of the display, which will improve the performance.
Best regards.

Hi Haim,
I agree with you, it's just settings.
Otherwise RC works great.

We have Multiple Administrators. I was wondering how to accomplish this? All of our clients are over the wan. I would love to use Remote control with them. However without Multiple ip's assignd to the firewall I can see no way of port forwarding to the correct administrator for the correct SR.

Attain hi,
At the moment you can define port forwarding to one of the compuers in the network, connect to this computer and connect the others from him.
We are working on our RC and trying to improve it so we hope it will answer your demands.
Have a nice day,
Itay

I have done this way.
Install and set a free vpn Network software (hamachi) at all my support costumer computer, after that run the instalation procedure of Syaid client de IP Address to my vpn IP preveusly set o a vpn client instalation on my SysAid Server.
When I need to conect the remoto client computer I set my vpn IP Address as the IP Address to call back.
I hoolpe this can help,

The port forwarding is OK for a small number of users, but as the number of administrators grow or PC's get switched out etc, updating firewall rules and DHCP reservations or static assignments is extra work that shouldn't be required.
Here is a feature request that would solve the issue and eliminate any of that manual configuration. I have used another well known (and very expensive) product that works in this way, and the freedom to work on any of your clients PC's from anywhere at any time truly is a god send.
