SysAid Tip - Upgrading the SysAid Agent without Re-Deployment

A Tip from Sarah Lahav, the Head of Ilient Support Team

To save you time and efforts, from version 5.0 and up, you can easily upgrade the SysAid agent without having to re-deploy SysAid to your network.

1.Go to Preferences->Asset Setting-> Asset Update
2. From the Command dropdown menu, choose Upgrade client version.
3. Choose which asset or asset group to run the upgrade on.
4. Set the date for the next upgrade.
5. Choose how often to repeat the automatic upgrade.
6. Click the Add button, or the Run Now button to upgrade immediately.

For instance, if you have SysAid 5.0.03 version, your client will be automatically upgraded to SysAid 5.0.06, even if the workstation is off.

We use groups to break out our inventory based on region and then physical location.

i.e. TOP LEVEL -> South Carolina -> Facility #222 - Columbia

Since we have over 200 physical locations nested in these subgroups, it isn't feasible for us to create separate rules that apply to each individual group. However, in the past, this was how it appeared to work.

If we set a rule to the TOP LEVEL, will this setting apply to all sub-groups today? If not, should I make a feature request for this functionality or is there a good reason that you have designed it this way?

Thanks!

Hello jncash ,

If you wish to change the F11 hotkey what you need to do is:
In the Deployment Tool, (start-> program-> SysAid -> deploy SysAid-> edit-> settings) click on “settings” in the top menu, and you'll find an option for changing the hotkey. You can enter “none” & disable the hotkey or you can choose any combination that will not interfere your daily work.
If you used login script to install SysAid agents please send it to me I will change it for you.
You could also change specifically one workstation by right clicking on the icon on the desktop, choose properties look for the hot key & change the set up.

Hope i have helped if not our support team will be happy to help.
thanks
sarah

dpfalk,

The server does not need to be installed on a domain controller for this process to run.

It is possible that there is a connection issue between the server and the agent which prevent them from being updated, in that case, your assets will also wont be updated.

You can check it by looking in the "activity log" tab of your assets to see when they were last updated.
If they are not being updated regularly, there is probably a connection issue and you should open a service request with our support by sending an email to helpdesk@ilient.com so we can further investigate the issue.

Best regards.
Haim

Re:SysAid Tip - Upgrading the SysAid Agent without Re-Deployment

I have un-deployed the agent that was installed using F11 hotkey. I re-deployed using CTRL+F11, and F11 still works as well as CTRL+F11. I checked HKLM\Software\Ilient\Agent and only the CTRL+F11 code is listed. What to do next?

Re:SysAid Tip - Upgrading the SysAid Agent without Re-Deployment

Here's what I've noticed. If you un-deploy re-deploy the agent with different access keys, BOTH will be active until a reboot. After reboot, my first accesskey no longer works. It would seem logical if you think about it. The accesskey is registered when the agent service starts (maybe restarting the agent would also work?) and probably can't de-register the old access key until there are no locks on system fiels, etc.

This has worked in my environment.

EDIT: Sorry Haim, didn't see your reply. It would seem that a restart of the computer would be required. Perhaps this should be added to the documentation?

1.Go to Preferences->Asset Setting-> Asset Update
2. From the Command dropdown menu, choose Upgrade client version.

I can do step one, but when I get to step 2, I do not see anything called command dropdown. This is the Admin Portal we are talking about right?

I am running the On Demand version of the software if that helps.

Re:SysAid Tip - Upgrading the SysAid Agent without Re-Deployment
Dear Harold.Ballinger

As I said the upgrade does not change configuration so I am not sure what you mean by will this setting apply to all sub-groups today?

Please clarify I would be happy to address.
Have a great day

Sarah Lahav
Since Harold never came back to explain and since I'm in a similar situation, I'll pick the ball where he left it

In our case, similar to Harold, we have groups within groups (what he called sub groups) like :

\Building C\Offices\C2030
\Building C\Offices\C2040
\Building C\Offices\C2050
\Building C\Labs\C3010
\Building C\Labs\C3020
\Building C\Labs\C3030
\Building C\Class rooms\C1010
\Building C\Class rooms\C1020
\Building C\Class rooms\C1030

Only the 'end groups', like C2030, C2040, etc have agents in them. The 'parent groups' (like \Building C\Offices) are merely to organize things for us humans.

If I choose \Bulding C\Offices as group for agent re-deployment, will it re-deploy to the agents in groups C2030, C2040 and C2050 (the sub groups of \Building C\Offices) or must I specify each of these groups individually?

I believe this is what Harold was asking and I would really like to know as well. Like him, I have many 'end groups' with agents and having to specify each of them individually would be counter productive hence why he asked for a feature request if it wasn't already possible.

Thanks.

I also want an answer to this question asked by SylvainG and Harold.Ballinger .

If one chooses a group higher in the heirachy does the update occur for those below?
If one selects no group from the dropdown (e.g., Group is " \ "), does the upgrade occur for all groups?

Anybody?

thanks.
