The following FAQs were prepared for those interested in trying, purchasing, or learning about SysAid.

Who can benefit from SysAid?
SysAid is designed for IT managers who seek to improve service quality while reducing costs and overheads.
SysAid offers efficient, feature-rich asset management and help desk management.

What is asset management?
The ability to organize, view, and remote control the computers, printers, and other assets on a network.

Using SysAid, you can view a list of your organization's assets.
You can view assets' details, such as hardware and software.
You can even remote control assets, using your own keyboard, mouse, and screen to operate them.

What is help desk?
Help desk lets users submit service requests (problems and request solutions), which administrators respond to.

SysAid lets administrators sort, search, and solve service requests efficiently.
Our help desk is designed to be used within organizations

What versions of SysAid are available?
There are two versions of SysAid.

The first is an online, on-demand edition. To use this version, you simply log in via our web site.

The second version is installed on a server in your organization.

Which database does SysAid use?
SysAid can use one of the following databases: Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, FireBird, and MySQL.

The SysAid Free Edition for Windows supports only FireBird or Derby databases, while the free SysAid version for Linux supports Derby and MySQL databases.

The difference between Firebird and Derby databases is that Firebird does not support UTF-8 characters. Therefore, if your local language includes characters other than the Standard English ones, it is recommended to choose the Derby or the MySQL databases rather than Firebird.

What are the system requirements for an end user?
For installing the SysAid agent, so that SysAid can detect the computer, you need Windows 9x, NT, 2000, XP, 2003, Vista, or Linux

For submitting service requests, you need only a web browser compatible with IE 5+, Netscape 6+, Firefox 2+, or Mozilla 1+.

What are the system requirements for administrator?
Any web browser compatible with IE 5+, Netscape 6+, Firefox 2+ or Mozilla 1+.

How does SysAid work with firewalls?
SysAid is installed within your organization:

By default, SysAid listens on port 8080 (this was set during installation). Make sure your firewall keeps port 80 open. Thus, you'll be able to connect to SysAid from outside your network.

You are using the On-Demand Edition of SysAid:

You can contact SysAid via port 80. SysAid will never initiate contact with your computer. However, SysAid occasionally needs to contact your computer, for example, to view its inventory. To solve this, your computer automatically initiates contact with SysAid every once in a while. SysAid saves messages to send during these times.

Can I integrate SysAid with IIS or Apache?
Yes. If you are interested in this option, contact us with details, and we'll help you set it up.

Can I use SysAid with Linux?
Yes.
Please go to the Downloads page and start downloading!

How can I upgrade SysAid from the Free Edition to the Full Edition ?
If you have already received the Full Edition license, follow these steps-

2. Replace the activation.xml file located at:
c:\Program Files\SysAidServer\root\WEB-INF\conf\
with the one you received via email.
